Dear
Colleagues,
I
depart later today for a holiday break and hope you are all set to celebrate a
wonderful Eid with family and friends.
The
holy month of Ramadhan is coming to an end and fasting, dedication to prayers
and spiritual learning have purified one’s minds, bodies and souls.
The
country family culture means that Eid can be a very busy time, travelling from
place to place and visiting families and many friends, all in a very short
timeframe. The excitement during social gatherings and extended travel
can lead to tiredness being masked as adrenaline that keeps our minds and body
alert. This means that when driving to visit family and friends, fatigue can
easily catch us out and we may not know this until unfortunately it is too
late!
Also,
many compatriotss, expats and international visitors are attracted to Salalah at this
time of the year to enjoy the Khareef season. Drivers who travel long
distances and drive at high speeds have caused and/or experienced many
accidents in previous years and sadly precious lives have been lost. We
can and must however mitigate driving risks and protect ourselves by committing
to extra precautions, driving safely and preventing fatigue. Let’s make sure
that the special Eid Al Fitr holidays are a joyful occasion, because all our
families deserve to stay safe. We as drivers have a responsibility to be very
careful on the roads.
Please
follow these rules and simple words of advice for safe driving:-
- Seatbelts save lives so please buckle-up at all times – and that’s not just you but all your family members including your child in the last row of seats.
- Don’t rush, take your time and focus on doing the right thing – it’s not about time, it’s about reaching your destination safely and enjoying the whole occasion
- Keep off your mobile phones while driving – if you need to make or receive a call – stop and park in a safe location
- Most importantly - look out for signs of fatigue. If you can’t stop yawning, you lose concentration or make more mistakes whilst driving. A short 20 minute rest can recharge your energy levels and help you to reach your destination safely.
Please
take care of yourself and your family and friends and I wish you all a
wonderful Eid.
Eid
Mubarak to you and all your loved ones and thank you for your contribution and
commitment to our company and Country.
Take
care and role model safety first,
